JOHN CHANEY, beloved husband of the late Gloria June Maxwell, passed away peacefully in Lethbridge on Tuesday, April 27th, 2010 at the age of 77 years. He is survived by his daughters Stacey Maddin and her family Aaron, Kaitlin, Kathleen, and Michael; Lynn (Matthew) Chaney and her family Austin, Andrew, and Matthew John.

The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, West Stake Centre (Waterton Hwy), Cardston, AB. on Monday, May 3rd, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Shawn Olsen officiating. Friends may meet the family at the Church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the Service. Interment in the Cardston Cemetery.

Edythe Jackson passed away Friday, April 16, 2010 at Bethany Care Centre in Calgary at the age of 97. She was predeceased by her husband, Elwood Jackson and a daughter, Christine (Eric) Hatch. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth (Ian) Miller and Cheryl (Thom) Evans, 13 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

Edythe was born, the youngest of 11 children, to John B Merrill and Belle Merrill in Hill Spring, Alberta. She grew up there and became a teacher at the age of 18. She later received her Bachelors degree in Chemistry and went on to teach for many years.

Her children and grandchildren remember her positive, loving nature and how she encouraged them in all their endeavours. She will be greatly missed.

The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hill Spring, Alberta on Saturday, April 24th, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.

Friends may meet the family at the Church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the Service.

Interment in the Hill Spring Cemetery, Hill Spring, Alberta.

Cardston and District Historical Society Film Night

The Cardston and District Historical Society will be showing the documentary film, “City of Gold”, at the Cardston Courthouse Museum at 7:00 PM on Friday, April 30, 2010. This film was produced in 1957 by Cardston-born filmmaker Colin Low and is about the Klondike Gold Rush and Dawson City, Yukon. It was written and narrated by the Canadian historian Pierre Berton. This historical documentary received numerous awards in North America and Europe as well as an Oscar nomination.
There is no charge for this event and everyone is welcome.

GEORGE EDWARD JONES, born May 2, 1922 in Essex, ON., passed away May 1, 2010 in Cardston, AB with his loving family by his side.

He is survived by: his wife of 22 years, Colette Jones; his children: Leonard (Terry) Jones ,Windsor, ON, Beverly (Rick) Davison ,Cottam, ON, Deborah (Bruce)Doan , Essex, ON, Sharon (Rick) Ferguson , Edmonton, AB; his stepson: Eric (Alta) Pocedic, Cardston, AB; grandchildren: Jeremy, Jennifer, Cathy, Tammy, Carrie, Amy, Tonya, Christine, Alexandria and great grandchildren.

He was preceded by: his wife of 40 years, Ester Jones; his Parents: Edith and John Jones; his son: Jerry Keith Jones; his grandson: Richard Clinton Davidson; his brother: Frank Jones

George loved his dogs, camping at Campers Cove, and bicycling. The joy of his life was growing flowers, he received many awards for them. George was a life time member of both the Royal Canadian Legion (branch 201 Essex, ON), and the Red Cross blood bank donors. For many years George played Santa Claus for nursing homes, schools, the Boy Scouts, the Red Cross, the Legion, and his family.

His family appreciates the care and support, from Dr. L. Clarke and the Grandview Nursing Home staff, given to George and his family. Graveside Service at a later date in Windsor, ON

Obit - Fae Walburger

FAE WALBURGER passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 31st, 2010 after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Fae was born December 3, 1943 to Fred and Hilda Romeril in Cardston, AB. She grew up in Mountain View on her father’s ranch. She went to school in Mountain View and Cardston. She then went to work for the Royal Bank in both Cardston and Calgary. On June 8, 1968, she married Russell Graydon Walburger in Cardston, AB LDS Temple. They then moved to Rupert, Idaho and eventually back to Mountain View where they took over Russ’s father’s cattle ranch and raised their family. She held many different positions in the LDS church including primary counselor and teacher, librarian and served in the Relief Society. Fae loved the ranch and farm life and worked every bit as hard as Russ, running every piece of machinery they owned. She also enjoyed wood working and made many wonderful toys for her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her husband Russ and children, LaurAnn (Daniel) Headman of Orem, Utah; Lane (Jennifer) Walburger of Pima, AZ; Danielle (Richard) Wells of Idaho Falls, ID; Steven (Angela) Walburger of Mountain View, AB and 11 grandchildren. Fae is also survived by her father Fred Romeril, and siblings, Marie Barfuss, Wayne Romeril, Ruth Carter, Jane Carlson, Carl Romeril, Nolan Romeril, Clark Romeril & Connie Gibb.

She was predeceased by her mother Hilda Romeril and two sons, Allen Jason Walburger and an infant son.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Taylor and the nurses at Cardston, Lethbridge and Calgary Hospitals for their service and kindness towards Fae.

The Funeral Service will be held at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Mountain View, Alberta on Monday, April 5th, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.
